i have no problem in modifying stufff, and pulling trannies apart etc etc as i a diesel mechanic.. i just need to get the right parts first..

Hi Mick, welcome to the site!

Have you tried looking on Lextreme.com?  I know they have a ton of info from guys who have done 1UZ swaps down under.  I

yeah we going to swap it out, dont like idea of cutting a shaft..

we going to sydney to get the a343h tommrow, and then the sc400  will be here on sunday, so we can get started we brought a full car, for 1900 so it cheap and we cant sell all other stuff we dont want to use, we are still going to use sc400 dash as well as fuel tank.

we are going to fit a gq patrol rear diff, as it is a centre input same as 343h ouput is centre and fit spacers up front diff to give the same track..

spacers will go from landcruiser pattern to gq patrol pattern so all wheels are the same, and we going to use original fuel tank out of vehicle so we dont have fuel sender problems and it got fuel pump in built.. it mount behind rear wheels. origianl tank comes out, and so does the cross member to and in goes a centre hump type one..

Swapping the output shaft in the Lex trans turned out to be much easier than I expected...just a lot of parts to keep track of!

Using the rear end from a Patrol sounds like a good idea too...I was going to do something similar had I swapped the 1UZ into the FJ80.  That offset driveline on Landcruisers was proving to be a real headache!

Yeah, if you want to use the Lexus 340E transmisison, you're going to need to swap the output shafts or get an adapter from Inchworm or Marlin, plus a transfercase from an earlier Toyota pickup.  There's an explanation of it earlier in this thread.  Good luck!!   :)

Okay everyone, I'd like to clarify something for those of you doing swaps into 2nd Gen 4runners.  Mine is a '93  auto.  I also have a '91 auto.  Both of them have a 340H transmissions. HOWEVER, there is a difference between the two transfer cases!  I believe them both to be chain driven, but the '93 is definately hydraulic and the '91 is NOT!  I'm not sure why Toyota did this, but it's not the first time I've seen it.  The easiest way to tell in the vehicle is that the NON-hydraulic ones have a manual style shifter for the t-case and the hydraulic ones have an auto style shifter.  Also, my '91 that had the manual style t-case also came with locking hubs and the '93 had ADD.  So, what I did when I built my Lexus trans->toyota t-case was  use the '91 Lexus trans, cut the output shaft(had plenty of spline engagement), modify the 4-point star and '91 4runner t-case adapter for 2nd speed sensor, bolt up '91 t-case adapter, then bolt up '91 toyota case.  My 4runner is still passenger side drop.  Simple as that.  Hope this helps someone.

Got pics???   ;D

I wanted to do that same thing with mine, but a cut-down Lexus output shaft wasn't going to work with the 96+ transfercase adapter & transfercase...   :(

Sorry, no pics, however there is a writeup somewhere on lextreme where i think Madmont did the exact same thing before me.  I thought the whole time that I was doing something new and making new ground then found the writeup.  I was disappointed, but at the same time relieved because it worked for the other guy so it should work for me.

Mystery solved!  I emailed John over at IPT Transmissions...here's what he had to say:

"As far as the spring in the picture, it is an anti rattle spring for the overdrive clutch (B-0). Fortunately, it is pretty much an unnecessary part that you can toss if you wish. They made these transmissions for about 15 years before they decided to put that spring in."

Sweet!  Now my "Lexus 340F" is officially ready for install!!   ;D

Hey Chewy!

I have a question about the 340F output shaft and the 340E speed sensor.  How did you secure the speed sensor to the 340F shaft?  Did you do the drill and tap the shaft and install set screws with locktite?  Or is there something I am missing there?

Thanks!

Paul
