1997 SC400 Wiring Harness
« on: July 22, 2008, 02:08:45 AM »
I've finally finished putting my 1UZ back together and now in the process of labeling all the wiring.  I've read through the wiring schematics a bunch of times, but I need to start with a big picture first!

Here are a few photos of the engine loom, coming off the left side of the engine.  Anyone know what these connected to in the Lexus?  Did they plug into the fuse block?

***Update***  Ok, I've figured out two of the six connections.  #2 goes to Igniter 2 and #3 goes to Igniter 1.
                          Any ideas on #1, 4, 5, 6?

***Update***  I was told that two of these six connections would go to the fuse box in the SC400...

This is the Alternator wire, on the right side of the motor.  The two black connections go to the alternator, but where does the other end connect to? (the grey & pink ones)

Lastly, does this wire simply ground to the body?

All right!!!  That's one down!  Ha!  ;D

Oh by the way...don't know if you noticed, but I "borrowed" your idea for painting the plastic on the valve covers!

Yup, I noticed. ;D
One of the small plugs on my alternater loom (LS400) goes to the oil level sensor on the oil pan if that helps.
Here's a couple of wiring diagrams to help you, let me know if you need any more. ;)

Ok, after reading through toylexus' post on engine harness connector ID's http://www.uzswap.com/forum/index.php?topic=156.0, I was able to figure out a few more of the tenticles on the octopus of my harness.   :D  From the looks of it, I think the 95 and 97 SC400's are pretty similar.  However, the '97 has a few more connectors that I can't figure out...

I labeled all of the connectors inside the firewall, 1-11...

I've figured out the following:
1 = ???
2 = IJ1
3 = IK1
4 = IK2
5 = IJ2
6 = E11-A?
7 = E12-B
8 = ???
9 = T-13A?
10 = T12B?
11 = II1

#6 looks different from the E11-A connector on toylexus' harness, but it does for sure connect to the ECU, so I'm sure it's one of the many small differences that were probably made between 95 and 97.  But here're the connectors I have absolutely no clue on...

Here's #1.  Four wires in a 6-pin connector, right inside the firewall...

Here's #8.  14 wires in a 16-pin connector....

Here's #9 and #10.  I think they're for the traction control, but I'm not sure if the donor vehicle had it or not.  I dunno...was that a standard feature on a '97 SC400?  They look a little different from the ones on toylexus' harness...

Could you get the diagrams for the engine harness/ECU for a 1998 4Runner, 2WD Automatic?

Hey bushwhacker,
Thank you so much!!  I definitely need these!  I tried blowing them up, but they came out blurry! :-(  Do you have any by chance that are zoomed in?

Also, do you have the "Engine Performance Circuits" diagram for the 97 SC400?  What about the "Electrical Component Locator Diagram"?

On a side note, I spoke with "Doc" at Phoenix Tuning today (http://www.phoenixtuning.com)...$450 to make a plug & play harness!  Its tempting just to send him both harnesses and be done with it, but if I can just figure out where all the connections go, I think I can do it myself.  Not to mention, $450 could buy some nice accessories!

He did mention that two of the connections coming off the left of the engine would go to the fuse box...so that leaves two left to figure out...

I think I may have figured out the alternator, but tell me if I'm out to lunch on this...  ;)

Looking at the "charging circuit" diagram, it looks like the wire with the pink wrapping on it is the "main" line that runs between the alternator and the fuse box with a 150A fusible link?  So essentially, I would connect the "pink" end to where the 4Runner's current alternator connects to the fuse box, right?

I'm not at home right now so I can't verify the wire colors, but it looks like the wire with the plugs on it contains three wires total.  According to the diagram, they go to three different locations?  So does the grey-end plug into a body wiring harness which then distributes it?
