I can unplug the solenoid plug and it will shift manually.

Any ideas?

Got my swap done but I am missing something it will not shift out of first gear. I have a transfer case out of a 85 4runner I put my speed odometer drive out of my 93 in the transfer case. What do I need to check?

Great thread.  This is one of the more thorough builds I have seen.  Clean with clear explanations of what is going on.

Ingenious motor mount idea.  Also, I am going to cut my core support too and make it bolt on in case removal is necessary.  Good stuff!

That would be my truck.   Thanks..    No problems with the motor mounts so far.       The urethane mounts I used were actually made for a Mazda RX-7 Turbo.  The stock Lexus ones would have worked too but so far every Lexus I parted out had broken motor mounts and since I couldn't find anything aftermarket made for the Lexus I had to do something different.

As I mentioned in the build thread this design allows you to adjust the motor height as needed.

Awesome! I need to find you on here.  I have been working on figuring out the frame width differences between my 3rd Gen and the 97 LS400 to see about fitment.  I would rather do custom bushings like what you posted anyway as every story I have heard is exactly what you found about the motor mounts: all of them are broken.

What I liked the best about your build and in reference to the motor mounts was the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mentality.  Makes much more sense than dealing with really funky angles and odd locations.

Thanks a ton!

I realize the forum isn't particularly busy as of late, but wanted to show a cool idea that this fella had at the Marlin Crawler forums.

He discovered that in a 2nd Gen truck (89-94), the stock motor mounts from an SC400 works just fine if you fab up something to receive it and weld it to the frame.  He mentioned that the LS400 mounts are wider than the SC400 so that might be an option for the 3rd Gen 4Runners and Tacos since I believe they have more room between the frame rails.  His thought was that you just cut off the old mounts and do a 90 degree angle bracket (gusseted) and move on with life.  That way you aren't dealing with funky angles.

Here is the link.

Seems pretty sweet to me!

FINALLY...  Time for another chapter in this saga.  (Getting this into my garage was a monumental feat - not due to maneuvering but due to finding a home for all the junk in my garage.

Hi to all,

I bought this as an unfinished project.
It was a 2.4 TD. The previous owner bought a bell housing to mate the V8 to the Diesel drive train.
The motor has never run in the surf but the V8 lume has been wired into the surf lume.
The wiring still needs some finishing off that's why I haven't dropped a battery in and fired it up.

In my opinion the motor needs to be mounted lower but the sump is millimeters from the center steering arm as you can see in the photo.
The back of the passenger side head looks to be toughing the fire wall.  The conversion was done by a workshop that specializes in 1uz conversions, the standard of workmanshit I mean workmanship is not very high

1. I basically would like to know if from the photos is the motor positioned correctly in the engine bay

2. If it is in the right place do I need to make a new sump pan to clear the suspension.

3. will the 2.4 Diesel drive train handle the 1uz?

Dude... i think you'd have to be buying somebody at the smog shop and whoever put the BAR label on the door beer for a very long time too... ;D -- not just the DMV.
