..........and another, this one is #6.

I'll post a sound bite soon.
The best (budget) exhaust diameter/configuration/muffler combo I've found to work best regarding sound, throttle reponse and power delivery from a stock 1UZ engine (1990 - 1995) is:
2.5" downpipes from the stock LS400 manifold flanges.
Two seperate 2" dia pipes the whole length of the vehicle. (with 'H' pipe mid-way.)
No CATs.
Flowtech Raptor muffler at the end of each pipe with 3" tailpipes exiting the rear.
Oh, and the longer you can make the inlet tract, as in the photo, the more torque the engine seems to make.

« on: March 15, 2010, 05:40:33 PM »Hi Bushwacker,
Just a query re the oil filter relocation. Did you use a sandwich type adapter ( round one) at the original oil filter location or an adapter right in at the block (that's an out of square shape)?
Thanks
Tom
Hi Tom, this is the kit I used.....
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/TRD-1113?autofilter=1&part=TRD%2D1113&N=700+4294907647+115&autoview=sku
The round adapter screws directly to the block using the threaded nipple supplied. The V8 is from a Celsior and didn't have the oil cooler behind the oil filter.
Hope that helps.
Vince.

This time it's for a paying customer.
This truck (1992 2.4 liter turbo diesel Surf. (4Runner) has a snorkel fitted.
The heavy duty red cables behind the fuse box are for a winch.

Some photos showing how I utilised the stock Surf (4Runner) transfercase mount, may help somebody.

Oil filter relocation kit with stock LS400 filter...I welded a short piece of flat steel to the front chassis crossmember to hold the filter head.

another photo just to show that the stock LS400 fuel pump does not fit into the diesel Surf's tank opening...

Hi Cebby, I cut mine in the areas indicated by the yellow circles.....

Hope that helps.

Are the igniters earthed (grounded) properly? i.e. are they touching bare metal and not just scratched paint?

Are the coil wires plugged in securely?

« on: June 03, 2009, 02:38:53 PM »thought that was the case for a manualone other thing i forgot... is a body lift neccesary for a 2wd conversion?
No, because the front diff is not required and the engine can be mounted lower.
Vince, from sunny south Wales too!

Power steering pump leaking??
Some people have had the pumps leak fluid and it drips directly in/onto the alternator.
I've made and fitted a small deflector under mine out of thin aluminum sheet.

Hey Chewy, congratulations on getting your truck running, sounding and looking fantastic!
Regarding your cooling problems, it's probably to do with your hood scoop. The faster you go, the less efficient the radiator becomes as the scoop is creating back pressure against the airflow coming through the radiator.
Just a thought.
