Title: wiring a HALTECH to the 1uz 92 sc400
Post by: ice_spy on February 28, 2007, 11:56:19 AM
I have done everything!!!!. BUT unfortunatly i aint no sparky. My knowledge on the ignitors, coils, triggers is out of my league. Ive tried and tried again to understand the workings of it all, yet i just cant get my head around it. They should teach electronics in high school!
I think im going to run the 1uz's ignitors insted of the haltech ignition modual and bosche ignitor because these are already wiried into to coils etc.
Anyone please help. I have printed out the diagrams for the ignitors from this site, i will have a look at it all again today on my 4runner to see if this can shed light on the matter.

Do you have a link to or a way to post up more info on the Haltech (like pin outs, etc)?

Thanks Cebby !, The wiring diagram for the Haltech is at this site.
http://haltech.com/downloads/e6s_v7_manual.pdf page 132-38 i think will best explain the haltech, with page 137 and 138 showing the wiring diagrams/pin outs. Not sure if i need to use the haltech ignition modual or not, im guessing the bosche ignitor coil is not needed if im usung the 1uz's ignitors.?.

After much reserch i am no longer going to run the Haltech as it will cost far too much to get it mapped/tuned as opposed to just running the toyota ecu. I need a 28 pin plug and wiring diagram pinout for this ecu, its a 92 celsior 4 plug ecu 28 pin plug is the right hand plug.

Yeah that is a big project to hook one of those up without prior experience. A friend of mine used one of those for a turbo diesel engine he swapped into a 4wd van. It took him FOREVER!! He tuned that thing for weeks and got it running very well in the end. He definitely spent some long nights trying all sorts of things to get it running right. Just go with whatever you are confident working with.

Yeah i second that! ive got my truck booked into the auto elect. but hes flat out untill the first week into next month (april 07) so i just have to wait until then. He's had experince with the uz'ds and had just completed another 3rd gen 4runner. But i think the owner that shoe horned it in there will have some engineer probs becasue his motor and exhaust was touching everything everwhere!
Wish i had of sent my loom to Scott at Venom, when i first got the motor, i would of had it back and all done by now. i quess you live and learn.

WAHOOOOOOO YAHOOOOO YEEAAAAHHHH !!!!!!!! Got my truck back finally! im over the moon, its awesome! sounds unreal, goes sooooo well, pull really hard, lifts the front up under acceloration, hits seconds, wheel spins outta roundabouts, goes so well and the engine is so smooth, unbelievably smooth and clean revving. cant believe what a huge difference its made to my truck, its like a new car, i can just accelorate up hills in 4th gear, pulls away really hard in third gear from 60klm. Im soo happy with this engine its made my day. Poor little 4runner doesnt know whats happened to it!. Advice to anyone thinking about it... stop talking and dreaming about it and do it! it will be well worth all your troubles and money if you love your truck.
pics and vids comming soon, also Smitty, i will post some flex pics for you, but i just got to sort out a couple more teething problems, expected when you drop a v8 in to 4cly 4x4.

YYYYYYEEEEEEESSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!! awesome!!!!!!! YAHOOOOOOOOOOO !!!. :o ;D :D ;) :)

Cmon man, give me a brake, you posted 1hr after me and u expect vids and pics already?=D  maybe if your lucky i"ll have a few tommorow, seems like its got a bit of a vacume leak, and the clutch is slipping or little adjustment and you cant get gear.? maybe got to wear in the clutch a bit maybe. Also does anybody know where i can get some inlet manifold gaskets? cheap, i think thats my vacume leak problem as i used rtv when i did the injectors. Also got to upgrade my fuel system, i knew that much. otherwise its driving! does anybody know how to wire up the dash tach? as i would hate to have a bloody big autometer hanging off my pillar.

Sorry guys no footage or pics of flex yet, too busy being stressed out why it doesnt run right. It revs mid to top end fine, goes great, but has a bad idle problem, like its running on 4 cyc. i think really rich, or maybe like a limp mode or something. Even seems to back fire though the intake. Any ideas? i just put in a surge tank with carter pre pump, runs an vl turbo pump also. I have replaced the inlet manifold gaskets with .8mm ACL gasket paper between the plenium halves. I used RTV coppermax between the block and plenum bottom. i have new plugs, caps, rotors, cam belt.
I think my auto electy needs to look at it again, just trying to find out any info if anybody knows, as it seems to be a common problem throughout the forums (ruff idle).
RAHH so close yet still so far. cant drive it like it is, stalls sounds like its got a stage 7 cam in it hahaha.

Just throwing it out there, but did you plumb in the charcoal canister for gas fumes?

Dont think i hooked up the charcoal canister yet...... could this be my problem? or you just stirring me up  lol.
im going to check now. Also i started it up today, ran smooth idled smooth ??? the n when she seemed to warm up it turned sh*t again. I think my fuel pressure regulator is buggered, ive orded another one to replace it. fingers crossed. :-\

I'm probably just stirring you up really. Since 1970 all gas tanks are vented through a charcoal canister feeding gas into the engine to be burned before being released to the atmosphere.

Nope, unfortunatly wasnt the problem (didnt think so lol) but i did upgrade my fuel system with a surge tank and carter pre pump, and spent $90 on a fuel regulator to no avail. BUGGER. So i took it back to the Auto elect and he is trying another AFM, as he thinks this could be the problem. Hope so. Im starting to think this has become a nightmare becasue i cut the loom to install a haltec then went about re-pinning ther factory ECU.

Ah man I wish I could help ya. There are so many things to consider I can't think of any one to point out to you in your case =\ Keep at it, you'll work it out somehow.

Thanks Smitty, Ifinally  realised i had some wrong wire colours rejoined to extend thier lenght when i had cut my loom for the Haltech and then had to repair it all back to factory to hook up the original ECU.
The wires are getting sorted now (unravell loom) and when my auto elect has a free day he will correct the wrongly joined wires. If all go's well  then that should be it. fingers crossed. :D

After all my troubles, money and time spent with mechanics, auto electricians and mates or forums, i can only highly reccomend 2 people.

SIDESHOW (sss automotive) in NSW Sydney.

or

SCOTT HAMPSON (venom custom fabrications) in QLD Brisbane.

Scott wired my factory ECU / Loom and Sideshow diagnosed and fixed any problems i had with set up / tuning issues.

THESE MEN KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING with 1UZ's

Many thanks guys. Im a happy camper now

So did Sideshow tell you what was wrong with the engine? Still running good?
